We’re enthusiastic professionals passionate about the vine.

Nan McElroy

Founder

Nan was a wine enthusiast long before she began traveling to Italy in 1995, but she began to “officially” expand her knowledge once she moved to Venice in 2004. With a desire to deepen her proficiency and satisfy her endless curiosity – and having an infinite supply and variety of research material at hand – she enrolled in the AIS (Associazione Italiani Sommeliers) course and became a certified sommelier in spring 2009. She is a member of Slow Food, and has continued to explore the world of Italian wine and gastronomy through tastings, seminars and travel (both throughout Italy and abroad, in France, Spain, Slovenia, attending wine fairs like RAW wine in London, and more) and enjoys sharing all she’s discovered with travelers in a practical, enjoyable and informative tastings in the context of the Venetian Vine.

Barnaba Fagherazzi

Sommelier

Barnaba is Venetian by birth, and like every true Venetian he has always been passionate about the wines and food of his region. Barnaba has traveled extensively, spending 7 years abroad between Australia, the UK and Germany, where he studied to become a translator. After returning to his home town, he decided to broaden his knowledge about “vino” by attending the FISAR sommelier course, which for him was really just the beginning. In fact, when Barnaba is not teaching Jiu Jitsu, you may just spot him around town in a variety of traditional wine bars “studying” with his friends…especially on weekends!

During tastings with Barnaba you will speak not only about wine, but also about the life in a unique city, as seen through the eyes of a born-and-bred Veneziano.

Nicoletta Saggio

Sommelier

Nicoletta’s vino-cation is written in her pedigree: her great-grandfather, grandfather, and father have produced Prosecco in Collalto and nearby Valdobbiadene since the 1930’s. Nicoletta has been furthering on her own knowledge about wine and viticulture for the Tre-Venezie region, Italy, and beyond since she relocated to Venice in 2003 (after having helped her Dad literally plant the last new vineyard for the production of his favorite libation). She obtained her AIS sommelier certification once Nino, first addition to the family, gave his permission (he cares more for milk than wine). When tasting with Nicoletta, you’ll benefit not only from her studied expertise, but from a passion for food and wine that can only be shared only by someone who comes to it by birthright.

Lisa Dunk

Sommelier

Lia hails from the Lone Star State of Texas, and after taking a detour to study medieval and Renaissance music in Germany, hangs her hat right here in Venice. She relocated to Italy to pursue a career in opera, but we all know she stayed for the wine! She became a certified sommelier in 2018 and is an enthusiastic wine educator.

We take our wines seriously and ourselves lightly. And we all look forward to sharing our knowledge and our passion for Venetian and Italian wine!
